Native Hawaiian Career & Technical

In 1984, the U.S. Congress enacted the Carl D. Perkins Vocational
Education and Applied Technology Education Act authorizing
the creation of vocational education programs to improve
the employment status of Native Hawaiians. Through Title
1-Section 116 (h) of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical
Education Act, the U.S. Department of Education, Office of
Vocational and Adult Education-National Programs Division
awards the set-aside funds annually to ALU LIKE, Inc., through
a non-competitive grant process.
Eligibility:
As the sole eligible recipient in the State of Hawaii, the
ALU LIKE, Inc., Native Hawaiian Career and Technical Education
Program, established in 1986, is 100% funded to develop and
establish programs that prepare Native Hawaiians to be a
competitive force in the workplace through completion of
rigorous and culturally appropriate career and technical
education programs.
NHCTEP provides technical assistance and seed money to eligible
service providers for the systemic improvement and reform
of career and technology education and training for Native
Hawaiians.
